Speaker: Dr I Lo-Fen, Associate Professor (Division of Chinese), Nanyang Technological University
This talk will be delivered in Mandarin.
In print from 1881 to 1932, Lat Pau was the first Chinese newspaper founded by a local Chinese-Peranakan in Singapore. Its name was derived from “Se-Lat-Po”, an ancient name of Singapore, where “Selat” was a Malay word for “straits”.
At this talk, through examining the product, price, place, promotion, emotion, consistency and nicety of commercial advertisements in Lat Pau, Dr I Lo-Fen will discuss their marketing strategies and performances from the perspective of Text and Image Theory.
Seats are available on a first come, first served basis. No registration is required.
