Long before the concept of soft power and cultural export entered popular discourse, Singapore unknown to many, was the site of cultural export of Shaolin Martial Arts from the East to the West.

The individual instrumental to this phenomenon is a Buddhist monk, Venerable Gao Can, who served as the Abbot of Shuang Lin Monastery in postwar Singapore. His legacy is such that even to this day, his martial arts disciples from around the world visit Singapore to pay respect to him.

Speaker:
Mr Chan Chow Wah,
Independent Researcher

The talk will be conducted in English.
