Speaker: Dr Koh Keng We, Assistant Professor (School of Humanities and Social Sciences), Nanyang Technological University

This talk will be delivered in English.

This talk will examine the intersections between business, culture, and entrepreneurship in late colonial Singapore through the history of three commercial Chinese newspapers, Lat Pau, Nanyang Siang Pau, and Sin Chew Jit Poh, and the careers and projects of their founders. Through a comparative study of newspapers and businessmen, the talk will explore the place of culture in the latter's business strategies and how the environment in the late 1880s to the 1940s provided synergies between business, culture, and entrepreneurship.

Seats are available on a first come, first served basis. No registration is required.
